Upcoming county commissioner meeting on Friends of Silvermont and update on Silvermont progress

Update on Pumpkin Fest and Silvermont from Pinkie Byrd on behalf of the Friends of Silvermont board:

Just a short note to update you on what has been happening.

This summer we were pleased to arrange for and fund the restoration/renovation of the first floor of the mansion. which included repairs and refinishing of the hardwood floors, new paint and installation of custom wooden, interior shutters.

Next we partnered with Parks and Rec to spruce up the dolphin and turtle on the grounds. Their new paint jobs are wonderful.

Meanwhile we arranged for Schenck Job Corps to refinish and paint the porch rockers. They should soon appear back on the front porch.

Our big project was our 4th Annual Pumpkin Fest and we are pleased with the results. We grossed over $16,000 (Net was over $8000) and had a total attendance of 2765…both are record breakers. The funds earned from this plus your donations are what has made it possible for us to do this work.

Our next step is a presentation to the Transylvania County Commissioners on Thursday, November 29th at 7:30 in the administrations building to discuss our relationship. We look forward to continuing a positive relationship with them and planning for future projects. If you are free that evening, your presence at the meeting would go a long way in showing the commissioners how much the community appreciates Silvermont Park and work of the Friends of Silvermont.
