A sure sign of spring is the reopening of the Silvermont House Museum located at 364 East Main Street in Brevard. The nine room museum will be open to the public beginning March 18, from 2 to 4 p.m. on the third Friday of each month. The other monthly dates are: April 15, May 20, June 17, July 15, August 19, September 16, and October 21.
Individual, group or school tours can be arranged by calling Parks and Recreation (884-3156). There is no charge for admission to the second floor museum, however it is not handicapped accessible. Tours are led by knowledgeable docents who explain the life and times of the Joseph Silversteen family. Read more about the history.
