Getting ready for 2022 Pumpkin Fest!!!! Looking for volunteers!!!

Here are pictures from last Friday July 8, with Friends of Silvermont Pumpkin Fest volunteers repairing pumpkins to get ready for 2022 Pumpkin Fest at Silvermont in Brevard.

Pumpkin Fest is a community event and fundraiser for Friends of Silvermont to improve and maintain Silvermont Park and the historic mansion.   2022 will be our 7th year!

If you are interested in volunteering this year to help us get ready, or working during the event (last 4 weekends of October), please email Maury at pumpkinfestbrevard@gmail.com and let us know how you want to help.

During the summer, we repair and paint displays and build new displays;  carpentry and painting skills are needed.

Saturday, September 24 is move-in and setup day.   Further setup takes place from Sept 25- opening day October 7.

During the event, we have both sitting and walking/standing roles, including several booths, parking, host at the historic house, white squirrel costume and greeter, storytelling, and more.

If you helped last year, you will be contacted in Aug – Sept to find out if you are interested and available to help this year.   Thank you for your interest in helping.

Two more weekends of Pumpkin Fest to go!!

Nikki Talley and Jason Sharp are the musicians both Friday and Saturday Oct 22/23. Hours 6-9 pm at Silvermont Park.

Bill’s Boilerhouse Coffee will provide snacks, coffee, tea and hot chocolate each night.

Food trucks are:

Oct 22- Flat Rock Village Pizza and Levi’s Lunchbox

Oct 23- Twisted Roots and Levi’s Lunchbox

Brevard High School and Rosman High School students and Parks and Rec Youth Council are some of our great volunteers who staff booths and games and do some trail acting to make the event even more fun.

$5 admission (cash or check with ID) except for babies/toddlers in strollers/arms. $5 per car for onsite parking, but free parking nearby.

We had a recent question about whether we had a trick or treating aspect- the answer is NO. No candy for kids (we do have a stash for our volunteers, but don’t give them out to the kids, sorry). Take the kids out halloween night to get all the chocolate and candy they want…

But we do have a lot of other fun activities- walking the lighted pumpkin trail, white squirrel search (prize at end), face painting, games on tennis court, story telling, driveway chalk drawing, coloring pumpkin pictures, photo ops with Silversteen family costumes, and a dress up costume photo booth. The only thing that costs money once you get in the event is if you want to buy light sticks, or give the face painters a tip, or buy food or beverage.

Also have gotten questions about dogs. It is a county park, so dogs on leash are allowed, but since there are SO MANY KIDS, we ask that they behave well around a lot of kids please….

Any other questions???

Good News, Bad News

The good news is that we had a wonderful opening weekend, setting a record with attendance Saturday night, with 912 people visiting. The weather looks good this weekend, so we hope to have another great night.

The bad news is that our food truck had to cancel tonight due to health issues, so enjoy a snack at Bill’s Boilerhouse Coffee, or eat early or late. We are glad they are following health department rules and are sorry to miss The BBQ Shed’s great food.

Tonight is the first night of Pumpkin Fest!!!!!

With our rainy weather this week, it was touch and go whether we could proceed. It’s looking good out there and we are hoping for the best tonight. If needed, we’ll move some activities to the porch and improvise. The historic mansion will be open to learn about Silvermont’s history, musicians will be playing under the gazebo, and volunteers are ready to go!!

It’s always good to bring a flashlight and umbrella or rain gear, just in case.

Remember, cash or check with ID only. We are working on PayPal, Square and Venmo options but haven’t quite got that up and running yet. Stop by the ATM or bring a check with you.

$5 cash or check admission, babes in arms or strollers free. $5 onsite parking, but nearby there is free parking.

The BBQ Shed can’t make it tonight, but will be there Saturday.

Hope to see everyone stop by this beautiful and fun event. Here are some pics of our brand new The White Squirrel Circus to whet your appetite!!

No 2020 pumpkin fest due to covid19

To make up for it, we are expanding to 4 weekends (Fri. And Sat.) In October 2021. We are also building new displays. Please come back in 2021 for a bigger and better Pumpkin Fest!

Are dogs allowed at pumpkin fest?

Last few days we’ve been getting tons of questions about whether dogs are allowed at pumpkin fest. Silvermont is a county Park, so dogs are allowed on a

leash and if owners pick up after them. That said, we have a lot of kiddos of all ages, so hopefully the dogs are well behaved around the kids. We’ve been getting 700 plus folks a night, so they should be well behaved in crowds or come early or late to have a quieter time.

The only place in Silvermont Park the dogs can’t go is inside the historic mansion, unless it is a trained service dog.

Rain or not, the pumpkin fest party will still go on!

We’ve gotten a lot of questions about rain and the impact on the event. We will still be open, even if it rains. Bring an umbrella to walk the lighted pumpkin trail. The historic mansion will be open to learn about the history of the park and house. Music, face painting and pirate costume photo op will be moved to the porch. The only thing significantly impacted will be games on the tennis courts. Corn hole, chalk drawing will be done under the portico on the side of the house. Coloring pumpkins will be done inside.

So yes, folks, the show will go on! Here are some pics from last night.
